About
Rules and Daily Practices for Female Lay Practitioners Staying for Dhamma Practice
1. Even if a female lay practitioner has been ordained for 100 years, she should still pay respect to a monk ordained on that very day.
2. Female lay practitioners are prohibited from insulting or verbally abusing monks.
3. Female lay practitioners are not permitted to instruct or admonish monks; however, monks may instruct female lay practitioners.
4. Female lay practitioners staying for ordination and practice should uphold two duties: observing the Eight Precepts and listening to Dhamma teachings from the monks on every Uposatha day (the 14th–15th waxing moon and the 14th–15th waning moon).
5. Female lay practitioners who have no necessary business are not permitted to enter the monks’ area.
6. Female lay practitioners are not permitted to receive or welcome monks in the residential quarters. Monks may only be received in the designated common area, namely the Ruamjai Hall.
7. Quarreling, divisive speech, harsh speech, or slander are strictly prohibited. Anyone who violates this rule will be required to leave the monastery grounds. Female lay practitioners are also prohibited from playing radios or making loud noises that disturb others.
8. Female lay practitioners are not permitted to modify or decorate their living quarters without prior permission. They are also required to cooperate in cleaning and sweeping the monastery grounds and the female practitioners’ residential area together every day at 4:00 PM.
9. The maximum period permitted for staying at the monastery for Dhamma practice is 7 days.
***Any female lay practitioner who is unable to comply with these 8 rules may stay for no more than 3 days and must leave the monastery grounds unconditionally.
